Booking your first in-home consultation with a dietitian is a positive step toward better health and wellbeing. At AgeWell Dietetics, we bring nutrition care directly to you, making the process more comfortable, practical, and personal.

If you’re wondering how to get ready for your first visit, here are some simple tips to help you feel prepared and make the most of your session.

1. Think About Your Goals

Before your appointment, take a moment to reflect on what you’d like to achieve. Are you looking to improve energy, manage a health condition, prevent weight loss, or learn new cooking skills? Sharing your goals will help your dietitian create a plan tailored to your needs.

2. Gather Any Relevant Information

It’s helpful to have the following ready:

  • A list of your current medications or supplements

  • Any recent blood test results or medical reports

  • A food diary (if you’d like to track what you usually eat)

This information gives your dietitian a clearer picture of your overall health.

3. Make Your Space Comfortable

Choose a quiet area where you feel comfortable talking. If we’ll be looking at your pantry or fridge together, a quick tidy-up is helpful but not essential — we’re here to support you, not judge!

4. Be Ready to Talk About Your Routine

Food is just one part of your lifestyle. Your dietitian may ask about your sleep, activity, appetite, and daily routines. This helps us understand how nutrition fits into your overall wellbeing.

5. Involve Family or Carers (if you’d like)

If you have family members or carers who help with shopping, cooking, or mealtimes, inviting them to join can make the consultation more effective. That way, everyone knows how to best support your nutrition goals.

6. Safety First

For in-home visits, we ask that the space is safe and accessible for both you and our staff. If there are any risks or hazards, your dietitian may need to reschedule.

7. Keep an Open Mind

Your first visit is all about getting to know you and your needs. You don’t need to make big changes straight away — we’ll work together to set achievable, realistic steps that fit your lifestyle.
